On September 13th, the third PhD student from the international community of the PhD program Philosophy, run under the auspices of the Centre for Ethics, successfully defended his dissertation.
Philip Strammer presented the thesis entitled Togetherness as a Moral Notion and defended it in discussion with external reviewers Camilla Kronqvist (Åbo Akademi University) and Christopher Cowley (University College Dublin).
The discussion centred around the questions of love, the complexity of the notion of care and togetherness, the limits and potentials of the various takes on the foundational level of moral relationships (the merits of the third-person perspective, the importance of the we, not anchored in I-and-Thou), or, last but not least, the question of what morality is. It was a lively and enjoyable discussion and Philip stood his ground very well.
We congratulate Philip and are looking forward to following his future career!
